Now that Spring is here the girls are playing outdoors a lot more. They have outgrown most of their summer clothes. Yes Lucy does get a lot of hand me downs but they have differant size bodies. Sophie was thin but taller. Lucy is really thin and more fragile looking. What looked good on Sophie doesn't look good on Lucy. So they both need new clothes. So it means Grandma has to get to work. I looked in my stash and found the pink print with just the right amount of fabric for a top for Lucy. I thought the yellow would make nice capris. For playclothes I thought I would root thru my stash and try to use up some fabric. Even though they are playclothes we still want them to look nice. The top is a rather basic top, so I added a little rick rack to spice it up. I thought the capri's needed a little something. So I appliqued a butterfly , like the ones in the print, on the pant leg. I think the ruffle added a little fun.I had just enought fabric left to make the headband. The outfit ia complete. Now to start on something new.

Happy Easter

I hope everyone had a wonderful day. My family met at my daughter Sue's house for brunch this morning. Only the two that live out of town didn't make it. The other six were there. We had a great time. The younger grandkids had a Easter egg hunt as usual. I made Sophie and Lucy's dresses from the Felize pattern from THE BOOK. I like how they turned out. They also wore them last week to their cousin's wedding. Everyone there loved the dresses. They do not usually get to see boutique clothes.

Sad day

It is a sad day for me. The fabric store I have worked for the last 9 years is closing tomorrow at 4:00. I just hate to see another fabric store close. Yes they do have 2 more stores but not as close. If you have local stores please patronise them. If only for notions. Before we know it we will only have big chains and we will be at their mercy. I know I can buy on line but I still love to feel the fabric. I think sewing is coming back but not fast enough to save some stores. They need our help. We will be the losers if stores close. OK I will get off my soapbox and have a good cry. This was my dream job. I sold sewing machines and got paid to sew and play on machines all day. Maybe I will get more sewing done now.

Spring is in the air

This is just a fast and easy spring outfit. Perfect to wear with or without a tee shirt. Just a simple pillowslip dress shortened a bit and a pair of capri's. I love to applique, The little hand stitching by the bee's really livened up the dress. The pants needed something so I added a pointed cuff and button. The outfit really looks so cute on. It can be made in a afternoon with no rushing. The girls are growing out of their clothes so I must get busy.

Just Ducky

I have a few baby showers to go to, so I have been making baby things lately. I found this fabric with ducks already appliqued on it. I lined it with the blue Minky. I love the feel of the minky fabric. It is so soft and cuddly. I started of thinking what else would go with the duck fabric, I decided to make a growth chart. I appliqued on the duck on the fabric. I than decided to do a tree. The raindrops show the feet and the lines are the inches. It was a fun and easy project. I next made the little wrist toy out of my minky scraps. I also included a music box inside that played Jesus loves me. Next I went to bathtime and did a towel with the duck applique in the corner. I made the towel square to make it easier to wrap the baby. And finally a knit sacgue for bedtime, It made a wonderful shower gift and so easy to make.

Avalon Jacket

I finally finished the Avalon Jacket from the book Sewing clothes that Kids love. This jacket turned out so cute. It was easy to make. I really had fun decoration it up. I used the embroidery from Huupt Embroidery. It is reversable. I got a yard of polka dot corgaroy from Michael Miller. I paired it up with some cotton polka dot. On the red twill I had fun using ball fringe, ribbon and rick rack. It was so much fun just playing around. I will be making this jacket for both of the girls several times.

Dr Suess

I have been really busy but have finally got back to sewing. On Tuesday Sophie's school celebrated Dr. Suess's birthday. So naturally she needed a new outfit. I happened to find in my stash a piece of Cat in the Hat fabric I bought about 5 years ago. I only had 3/4 of a yard but it was enough for a Insa skirt. For the top I used the Marieka pattern. I love Farbenmix patterns. The outfit was a big hit. The school was selling the hats. It was a fun and easy outfit to make.
